01Your payment app posts a notification
Google Wallet, your bank app, Revolut — whatever you already pay with. Monetari only ever watches the apps you explicitly allow, and that allowlist never leaves your phone.
02Monetari reads it and files it
The amount, currency and merchant are parsed, matched against your own rules first, and converted to euro at the European Central Bank rate for that day. Known merchants cost nothing to categorise.
03You confirm, or you ignore it
Confident captures land straight in your month. Anything uncertain waits in a review queue where one tap fixes it — and teaches Monetari the rule, so it never asks again.

Built around one honest question — where did the money go.
Low-confidence captures collect in one place instead of quietly landing wrong. Recategorise, split a shared bill across categories, or correct a merchant. Every correction becomes a rule, so the same shop is never wrong twice.
A single screen for the calendar month: what came in, what went out, what is left, and the categories doing the damage. Change the period and everything follows.
Per-category and per-merchant totals across the window you can see, so “I think I spend too much on coffee” becomes a number you can argue with.
Set a monthly cap per category and track against it as the month runs, rather than discovering the overspend in hindsight.
Amounts are stored as exact integer minor units and converted at the ECB rate for the day of the transaction. Currencies are never silently added together.
Every plan can export the transaction history visible to it, while Premium unlocks full-history self-service export. You can also contact us to exercise any applicable GDPR access or portability right.
Most budgeting apps start by asking you to hand over online-banking credentials, or to authorise a third-party open-banking provider to read your accounts. Monetari does neither, because it reads something your phone already shows you.
Monetari has no connection to your bank at all. It cannot see your balance, your IBAN, your statements or your card number, because it was never given a route to them. It reads notifications your phone has already displayed on your own lock screen.
You choose which apps Monetari may watch, and that allowlist stays on your device. For each selected notification, Monetari sends the originating app package and payment text to its encrypted backend for processing — never your full installed-app list or notifications from apps you did not select.
Categorisation checks your own merchant rules before anything else. The more you correct, the less of your data is ever processed further — the private path is also the cheaper one, which is why it is the default.
If Premium lapses, older history stops being displayed — it is not removed. Budgets you configured are kept. Self-service export becomes limited to the free history window, while statutory access and portability requests remain available. Resubscribing brings paid features back.
Monetari uses Android’s notification listener permission, which Android requires you to grant explicitly in system settings and which you can revoke at any time.
